Ezra's First Birthday Party

Today's circus-themed birthday party for Ezra was a blast. Grandma Sherry made the cake, which was chocolate and vanilla in a zebra print:

We had a pinata shaped like a clown. That thing was scary. I am so glad the kids beat the heck out of it.

Many, many friends and family came out to celebrate for Ezra's first birthday. We thought we over-bought food and were going to have to send food home with guests, but we ended up getting pizza (thanks, Uncle John!) around 8:00pm because all the food was gobbled up!

Ezra adored all the attention, and Mommy and Daddy totally appreciate the outpouring of love from our friends and family. Being the Raging Bull that he is, Ezra missed a nap (or two) in this event-filled day. So when our last guest left around 9:00pm, Ezra did his best drunken old man impression by stumbling over to my lap, crawling up with great difficulty (and very little grace), and immediately fell asleep in a pool of drool on my sweater.

Happy birthday, Monk ;)

Sleep training

We're trying to get Ezra to go to sleep without Mommy holding and rocking him. Mommy's back is starting to feel the ill-effects of carrying a very heavy baby boy for at least an hour every night. But Ezra protests. So, it is with a heavy heart, Mommy attempts the first "cry it out" session.

Pressed up against the corner of the crib, slouched down in a seated position, my little monster finally gave up the fits of frantic tears for deep, manly snores. I'm afraid to move him lest I awaken the slumbering beast. Damn, he's cute.

Love thy teeth

Happy Valentine's Day, or Happy First Day Ezra Brushed His Own Teeth. 'Nuff said.

Note to Ezra: If you read this at an age when you think that brushing your teeth is not important, then you were smarter as a baby. Brush your teeth and floss daily! However, if you remain diligent to your oral health, I commend you, you brilliant child'o'mine.
